Intactivism: Week in Review April 30, 2011

by Tally on April 30, 2011

San Francisco MGM Bill to ban male infant circumcision Parents, protect your babies. Support intactivism. The following list includes blogs, articles, and websites of interest to Intactivists that were published in the past week. This is a running tally of the ones I found interesting.

The big news this week was that the San Francisco MGM Bill effort collected almost double the required signatures to get the Bill on the ballot in November. The San Francisco MGM Bill website has the full text of the bill.  The Male Circumcision and HIV blog is one of many bloggers and news organizatins writing about the successful gathering of signatures to get the bill on the ballot in November. CBS Health reports in a typical style: lots of puns and the obligatory circumcised banana.

Foreskin Restoration and Intactivist Calendars

by Tally on April 28, 2011

Foreskin Restoration and Intactivist public Google calendarI created two public Google calendars: one for foreskin restoration and another for intactivism. These calendars can be freely copied and posted on other websites.

The Foreskin Restoration Google calendar shows Foreskin Restoration events. The foreskin restoration calendar has events such as NORM meetings and other meet ups that are of interest to those restoring their foreskin.

The Intactivist Google Calendar shows Intactivist events. The intactivism calendar has events such as demonstrations and marches for genital integrity and against infant circumcision. The intactivist calendar also includes notices of local intactivist meetings and other important events, for example, the date San Francisco residents vote on the SF MGM Bill to ban infant circumcision in San Francisco, California.

The Guggie Daily: Confessions of a Circumcised Baby
A story of a boy's birth and circumcision, as told through the eyes of the baby boy. A moving first person account of birth and circumcision. "While my mind may never be able to reflect clearly on the surgery, somewhere within my memories it exists. It's too pivotal not to remain. The surgery was the first bad thing that happened in my life, the first time I felt a massive amount of pain, the first moment I was not comfortable and content. And it was unnecessary, because you created me perfectly inside you. There were no alterations needed.”

Beyond the Bris: Lucking into Bris Shalom
A Jewish mother writes about circumcision. She recalls as a teenager hearing her father complain about infant circumcision. Her father told her that he would not have circumcised his son, if he had one. So, instead of a Brit Milah, she opted for a Bris Shalom, a naming ceremony without any cutting of body parts.

babies, boobs, and blasphemy: Showers... and Silly Pro-Circ Argument #4
For all those that advocate infant circumcision for hygiene - get real! This mother describes how the penis the one body part that her son is sure to wash when bathing. Cleaning under the foreskin is simple and easy. And there is not a male alive who will not take a moment to play with it in the shower or bath.

Male Circumcision and HIV: UK: Doctor struck off the medical registry for taking circumcision fetish too far
It's rare that a doctor who sexually fetishizes circumcision takes his obsession so far as to sexually abuse his patients during the course of treatment (except for recommending and carrying out the unnecessary circumcisions themselves, of course). But one has done just that. While being found not guilty of sexual assault against mostly teenage patients (hats off to those lawyers!), he has been found unfit to practice medicine.
The now former Dr. Bracka once co-authored a paper detailing a method of circumcision requiring the victim to be fully erect during the procedure.

A Distressing Journey of Self Discovery

by Peter Pink on April 5, 2011

Infant circumcision affects the man the baby grows up to beNeonatal Experience

The day after I was born in a New Zealand St. Helen’s Maternity Hospital I was sexually assaulted, as was the custom in those days. A doctor cut off part of my penis. This was probably done without anaesthetic or pain suppressants. My first sexual experience was pain and humiliation. The doctor used forceps to rip the foreskin from the glans, leaving it red and raw. Next he used scissors to cut off both layers of the foreskin, trimming off as much of the moist internal mucosa as possible. This removed the ridged band and most of the frenulum – both major sources of male sexual pleasure. I know he put in a stitch to stop any bleeding from the frenular artery, because the stitch tunnel can be clearly seen even today.

This act of genital mutilation was probably carried out well away from my mother so she could not hear my screams. Perhaps I went into shock fairly quickly and stopped crying. This violent introduction of the world was soon lost to my conscious awareness, although the effect of this so-called harmless procedure was to have long lasting consequences that even now haunt me several times each day.

Forced non-therapeutic circumcision of male babies was nearly universal in New Zealand in the 1940s. Many doctors pushed it for the money; others just went along with the medical folklore of the period. In my case the doctor appears to have convinced my mother that the procedure was necessary in case her son was ever to fight in a desert war where the sand would be an irritant to intact genitals. She may have felt she was doing the best for her son and of course the doctor got his fee.

The Reporter: Straight Talk: Senseless war against masturbation still rages
A teenager caught masturbating is grounded. The response is that it is now medically recognized that "Masturbation is a normal part of adolescent sexual development and requires no medical management." Years ago, circumcision was a common treatment to prevent masturbation.

Am I getting old or what ?!?

by Tally on April 1, 2011

I remember a time, just a few years ago, when I did stuff. For example, my extended family used to celebrate Christmas in Florida. My wife and in-laws would fly there and I would drive. I would leave in the evening, drive all night, and pick them up at the airport. I enjoyed the drive, the solitude, and the peaceful feeling of putting miles on the highway. I don't do that any more.

I don't know why. I just don't do stuff like I used to.

This past month really proves that I am not the man I used to be. Two weeks ago Hayseed Dixie was appearing in a town 1-1/2 hours away. I like Hayseed Dixie's music and I really wanted to see them. They play a different type of music, often coveing heavy metal, bluegrass style. The video below is one of their songs.
