Intactivism: Week in Review August 28, 2010

by Tally on August 28, 2010 Bookmark and Share

Male infant circumcision flow chart that anyone can understandSay no to circumcision - support intactivism. The following list includes blogs, articles, and websites of interest to Intactivists that were published in the past week. This is a running tally of the ones I found interesting.

This week has not had many intactivist related posts. NPR presented a very one-sided view supporting infant circumcision on All Things Considered. The blogosphere has been filled with similar posts that followed the NPR slant. Amazingly enough, the overwhelming majority of these comments supported genital integrity. It seem that intactivists are speaking out more.

On the bright side this week, the circumcision flow chart to the right popped up all over the internetz. The message is simple. Hopefully, it will become a meme and people will continue to avoid circumcision.

npr: Study: Circumcision Rates Falling Fast In U.S.
A biased story that looks primarily at the cutting culture and discounts the reasons not to circumcise an infant. NPR does not present any information on the genital integrity side of the issue. But, there are many good comments supporting genital integrity. I guess the outcry against the biased story confirms that the majority of today's parents support leaving their children whole by saying NO to circumcision.

no circumcision: CDC Reports a Steep Decline in Circumcision Rates for US
Another report of the falling male infant circumcision rate in the United STates.

about.com: Sex Definition: Uncircumcising
Uncircumcising is another name for foreskin restoration. Non-surgical foreskin restoration is a popular way to undo a circumcision. Many men find that having a foreskin, even a restored one, is much better than being circumcised (I know I do).

Fridge Magnets: If I was to marry a cut man....
A woman writes about the prospect of being intimate with a circumcised man. I know if I was to get into a sexual relationship with a cut man, I would cry every time I saw his penis. I would cry for the pain he went through as an infant. I would cry because he has no idea what he is missing.

Circumcision Wisdom: Many Swedish doctors oppose circumcision
Two out of three doctors surveyed in Sweden said they refuse to circumcise boys because they consider it assault without the child’s consent. They viewed the procedure as barbaric and akin to unnecessary female circumcision.

DrMomma's Peaceful Parenting: Circumcision of Multiples Equals Multiple Mistakes
Many men who were born with a twin brother were spared infant circumcision. Being born as one half of a twin, the boys were considered too frail for the circumcision surgery. Lucky them!

laci green: My Own PERSONAL Take on Circumcision
Laci describes her thoughts about circumcision of children. It is a practice that should not be done on boys or girls. She concludes from her research that circumcision persists because it is a cultural norm.

Meg-isms: Knowing Better
A mother writes about how she knew better when she had her second son. Her first son was circumcised as an infant. Her second son is intact. "When we know better, we do better." ~ Maya Angelou

no circumcision: Surgery for tight foreskin
A study describing a new technique for the treatment of children's phimosis. The study is: Sutureless prepuceplasty with wound healing by second intention: An alternative surgical approach in children's phimosis treatment.
