The BIID site aims to inform people about a relatively unknown and misunderstood condition which leads people to need an impairment of some sort. The most often sought impairments are: amputation, paraplegia, blindness, deafness. 

The site includes a page titled Integrity, Mayhem, and the Question of Self-demand Amputation that discusses the number of surgeries in the United States, including over 1,000,000 circumcisions. The BIID page is a response to an article published in Continuum: Journal of Media & Cultural Studies, Volume 19, Number 3, September 2005 , pp. 325-333(9).
