It has been two years since I had my HoLAP prostate surgery. I have gone from wearing a catheter to peeing like a teenager to sleeping all night long.
I am very happy with my current prostate status. I really enjoy sleeping all night long without having to get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom.
Currently, I score mild (5 points) on the index. The reason I have as many points as I do currently is that I think I have a weak stream. I had a much stronger stream a year ago. My stream is still much stronger than it was before my surgery.
I imagine that my weakened stream is an indication that my prostate continues to grow. One symptom I had before my surgery was I could not sit for long - my butt hurt. I had a constipated feeling, even though I was not constipated. My butt has started hurting again. I am hoping that it is because I spend too many hours working while sitting on my butt. I don't have that constipated feeling when my butt gets sore, so I have high hopes my prostate is not acting up, again.
The HoLAP surgery typically is good for seven years before the prostate grows large enough for another procedure. This is just three years less than the length of time after a TURP. I think I have an aggressively growing prostate, considering that I first had prostate problems in my 40s. I may not make it to seven years before I need to have my prostate operated on again.
My father-in-law just had prostate surgery this past Spring. His prostate was reduced with a Revolix laser, which is a next generation laser past HoLAP. His surgery went well and he had an easy recovery, particularly considering that he is 89 years old. A Revolix laser surgery may be in my future, unless they come up with something even less invasive and with a better outcome.

Two years after my prostate surgery
I am very happy with my current prostate status. I really enjoy sleeping all night long without having to get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom.
Before my surgery, I scored about 32 of the maximum 35 points on the American Urological Association (AUA) symptom index of benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH). That score gave me a rating of severe.
