Intactivism: Week in Review July 31, 2010

Say no to circumcision. Support intactivism. The following list includes blogs, articles, and websites of interest to Intactivists that were published in the past week. This is a running tally of the ones I found interesting.

A recent development is the Whole Network, which has a page on Facebook. The Whole Network is a grassroots network aimed at keeping newborns WHOLE by providing accurate information about the foreskin and the benefits of remaining intact. First there was Intact America. Now, intactivists are starting state-specific websites for keeping babies genitally intact, for example, Intact Georgia.
This is a running tally of the ones I found interesting.

The news this week is that the International AIDS Conference was held in Vienna, Austria. Unfortunately, too many are calling male circumcision a proven measure to combat HIV. But, there has not been any followup studies to "prove" that male circumcision has any impact on HIV infection rates. With all the men that have already been circumcised in Africa, evidence of the efficacy of male circumcision with respect to the HIV rate should be readily available. The evidence for any "proven" method should be mounting. The absence of such evidence is telling.
Although circumcision has been touted as one of the ways to prevent HIV infection, recent findings show an increase in HIV infection in regions where most males are circumcised. According to findings of the Kenya Aids Indicator Survey (Kais) released last week, North Eastern and Coast provinces, where 97 per cent of males are circumcised, registered an increase in HIV prevalence.

This week has not seen many intactivist posts. It may be that the heat wave across the United States has kept intactivists busy doing other things, like keeping cool.
Parents, respect the genital integrity and autonomy of your children

If surgery is not medically necessary to correct a birth defect or disease, then the child should not be cut, period.

I am a son who was circumcised shortly after birth. I do not like it. I hate my circumcision. Many young men who were circumcised also do not like that part of their sex organ was cut off. Thanks to the Internet, more young men are learning what circumcision does. It removes erogenous tissue from the penis. The foreskin is there for a reason and these young men are upset that it was removed before they were old enough to object.

How to start restoring your foreskin

A common question for those interested in starting to restore their foreskin is how to start restoring.

Many men restore because two things will happen. First, foreskin restoration will result in a reasonable facsimile of a foreskin. And, second, foreskin restoration will increase sensitivity by allowing the glans and inner foreskin remnant to return to their normal, mucosal state. The second happens normally as a consequence of the first, but many men want to speed it up. I originally did not want to regain my sensitivity until I had enough skin to protect my newly sensitive glans. But, I regained some sensitivity before I had enough skin. And, it was very irritating having my sensitive glans rubbing against my clothing.

How to start restoring depends upon what is valued more, skin or sensitivity.

Intactivism: Week in Review June 26, 2010

Say no to circumcision - support intactivism. The following list includes blogs, articles, and websites of interest to Intactivists that were published in the past week. This is a running tally of the ones I found interesting.

This week very little has been written about circumcision. Maybe everyone is at the 40th annual San Francisco Pride Parade, the Chicago March against circumcision June 27th, the 41st Annual LGBT Pride March in New York, or the Boston Pride Parade. Intactivists will be participating in each of those events.

Everyone is encouraged to participate in local events. The more people that are educated about the harm of genital cutting, the more likely we will see an end to infant circumcision.

Monday, June 21, 2010

Handcancel Magazine: DC: Handcancel Stacks Digital Capital
The blogger says, "Every so often I have to use this blog to remind people that circumcision is wrong." He reminds everyone that male circumcision is a horrible, unneeded, antiquated practice that, in 2010, is not done on a majority of boys worldwide.

Male infant circumcision is not something that parents should be deciding for their sons. Forcing circumcision on infants who cannot understand what is being done to them is unconscionable.
